In the
last financial year, the sale of Sanchayapatra has exceeded Tk 90 thousand crore.
This figure is about 15 percent higher than the previous year. According to the
sources of the Department of National Savings, the total amount of Tk 90,280
crore has been sold in the last fiscal year. In the meantime, due to maturity
of the stock sold earlier, the original and interest payments have been paid at
Tk 40,341 crore. As such, the amount of net sales stood at Tk 49,939 crore 48
lakh. Every year, the government considers saving money as one of the major
ways to finance a budget deficit.
Although the target of borrowing Tk
26,197 crore from the sale of storage items in the last 2018-19 fiscal year,
the sale was increased to Tk 45,000 crore. But at the end of the financial
year, the amount reaches around Tk 50,000 crore. The target of borrowing Tk
27,000 crore from the savings account in the current fiscal year (2019-20) is
set in the budget. In recent years, securities have been considered as a safe
means of investment for the general public. General investors are becoming
interested in securities due to the volatility in the capital markets and low
interest rates on bank deposits. Concerned people say that once the family of
retired citizens got interest from the savings, now people of all classes have
become interested. With banks falling interest rates, many are turning to fixed
deposits, breaking fixed deposits. At present, the profit margin of family
savings products is 11.52 percent. For the five-year period, Bangladesh Stock
Exchange has a profit rate of 11.28 percent, the profit rate of the securities
based on the three-month interval is 11.04 percent, and the pensioner's deposit
rate is 11.76 percent. This rate has been in effect since the 23rd May’2015.
